Francis C. Shane papers, 1942-1969.

This collection contains information regarding the work of the United Steelworkers' Committee on Civil Rights, where Francis C. Shane served as Executive Secretary. Included are meeting minutes, correspondence, and clippings on the committee's work. Also present are recordings about the history of the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO). Material from Shane's experience training for the medical department of the United States Army during World War II includes tests, study sheets, and certificates. Photographs from civil rights demonstrations and USWA events are also present, as well as signed photographs of USW presidents Philip Murray, David J. McDonald, and I. W. Abel.

Francis C. Shane of Braddock, Pennsylvania, served as corporal in the medical department of the U.S. Army during World War II.
